Does this tool calculate the correct scuba weight for me?
No. Body composition, water, exposure protection, cylinders, equipment, gas state, and technique all affect buoyancy. The tool interprets observations from a controlled check and proposes only the next thing to test.
Why does venting come before changing ballast?
Gas trapped in a BC, wing, or drysuit and movement such as kicking or sculling can make a diver appear underweighted. Correct those conditions and repeat the observations before adding lead.
Why should the check be repeated near minimum gas?
Breathing gas has mass, so the system becomes more buoyant as gas is consumed. The demanding weighting case is therefore near the planned end-of-dive minimum-gas state. Never consume gas below the dive plan just to perform a check.
Is the suggested ballast change a final recommendation?
No. A suggested 0.5–1 kg or 1–2 lb change is a small next trial after technique and gas-state checks pass. Test it with an instructor or trained buddy and repeat the full surface and shallow-stop observations.
Can I use the tool with a drysuit?
The tool adds a drysuit-venting question, but it cannot teach or verify drysuit technique. Use only the minimum suit gas required for comfort, follow your training, and review uncertain results with an instructor.
