About SAC Rate

Surface Air Consumption (SAC) rate is the volume of air you consume per minute at surface pressure. It's a key metric for gas planning and understanding your diving efficiency.

Formula:

SAC=PstartPendTdive×DFSAC = \frac{P_{start} - P_{end}}{T_{dive} \times DF}

Where:

  • PstartP_start = Starting pressure in BAR
  • PendP_end = Ending pressure in BAR
  • TdiveT_dive = Dive time in minutes
  • DFDF = Depth Factor = Depth+1010\frac{Depth + 10}{10}
Tips to Improve

• Perfect your buoyancy

Minimize unnecessary movements and finning

• Breathe continuously and comfortably

Never hold or deliberately restrict your breath to save gas

• Streamline your gear

Reduce drag and maintain proper trim

• Stay relaxed and calm

Stress and anxiety increase air consumption
